“Then the Twelve summoned the group of disciples and said, it is not right that we should neglect the word of God for the service of tables. Seek therefore, brothers, among yourselves seven men of good reputation, full of spirit and wisdom…” (Ac.6:2-6)

Last Sunday, January 9, 2022 the Feast of the Baptism of Jesus, I Cristal Bai Christadima and my confrere Ronel Lumapac Sarte, in our parish at Santa Maria della Perseveranza in Rome, we were ordained deacons. Our greatest gratitude to the Lord Jesus, the beginning of all things and the author of our vocation, for having chosen us, called us and led us into this religious family of the Missionary Servants of the Poor. Aware of having been elected not by our own merit but by grace, we understand the great gift we have received today, a gift that in turn will become a gift for all those whom we will encounter on our path and those who will need it.

What a grace this is for the Church, for our Congregation of the Missionary Servants of the Poor, and for our families whom we will never cease to thank for giving us life and supporting us in our vocation.

The sacred rite was presided over by H.E. Rev. Monsignor Vincenzo Bertolone who, during the celebration, exhorted us to live with loyalty and consistency of life. Taking his cue from the sacred diaconal rite, he reminded us above all on the importance of the Gospel, exhorting us to believe in what we proclaim, to teach what we have learned in faith and to live what is taught. These words were very deep and full of meaning that touched our hearts, as well as all those present. Culminating and exciting were the moments of the imposition of hands by the bishop and the clothing of the sacred vestments.

The celebration was attended not only by our confreres and some of our sisters, but also by several priests from our respective countries of origin. The participation of the faithful was limited given the time of emergency-covid that we are going through. At the end of the ceremony, we thanked the Lord, author of every vocation, and all those who have contributed to our human and spiritual formation and growth.

At the end of the Holy Mass, we gathered for an agape and fraternal moment, wishing to rejoice in this happy circumstance. We entrust ourselves, once again, to your prayers, which will certainly not be lacking. May the Lord bless each and every one of you. Long live Jesus!

Brother Christal Bai Christadima S.d.P.
