Three Lives, Three Yeses, One Mission

(The First Religious Profession of Three Brothers)

On August 17, 2026, amid the joyful gathering of family, friends, benefactors, and members of the religious community, three novices of the Congregation Missionary Servants of the Poor—Nov. Arnel F. Gabas, Nov. Allen Jay F. Asignacion, and Nov. Ronald Allan S. Cancisio—professed the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty, and obedience. This sacred profession marked a significant milestone in their vocational journey as they took a great step forward in their commitment to God and to the service of the poor. At exactly 9:00 in the morning, the simple yet meaningful celebration was held at the chapel of the community in the Novitiate House in Malocloc Norte, Ivisan, Capiz. The Holy Mass was presided over by His Excellency, Most Reverend Victor Bendico, D.D., Archbishop of Capiz. Concelebrating with him were Rev. Fr. Ronald D. Ignacio, SdP, General Councilor of the Congregation Missionary Servants of the Poor; Rev. Fr. Clemente Aluad, SdP, Local Superior in the Philippines; and Rev. Fr. Blumentritt Fabriquel Jr., SdP, Community Superior in Ivisan and Novice Master. They were joined by the Poveri Fathers from Mabitac, Laguna; San Pedro; and Ivisan, together with members of the Capiz clergy.

In his homily, Archbishop Victor emphasized that genuine vocations begin with God’s initiative. A person is not called because he is perfect, but because he is willing to trust the One who calls. Religious life, he explained, begins with mercy, is sustained by mercy, and ultimately becomes an instrument of God’s mercy. The three newly professed brothers are called to serve the spiritual and corporal needs of the poor. Their religious profession is not meant to remain merely a personal commitment but must be lived among the people they are called to serve. Like yeast quietly transforming the dough, their presence and service are meant to transform lives through humble and faithful witness.

The Archbishop also acknowledged that religious life will inevitably have difficult and uncertain moments. In these times, the Holy Spirit becomes the source of strength, guidance, and perseverance.

The Constitution, Crucifix, and Rosary were presented as faithful companions on the journey: the Constitution as a guide to their common way of life, the Crucifix as a reminder of sacrifice and self-giving, and the Rosary as a sign of their filial devotion to Mary.

After the Holy Mass, the celebration continued with a simple meal shared with the families, friends, benefactors, and sponsors of the newly professed brothers. The gathering reminded everyone that celebrations are not complete without food on the table, where people can continue to talk, share stories, laugh, and simply enjoy one another’s presence.
